To the average Clemson fan, he or she does not wonder how the balloons got put at the bottom of the hill or how the First Friday Parade becomes possible. What they do know is they enjoy going to the game to see the team run down the hill with the added effect of several thousand balloons being released into the sky.
If someone were to know how the balloons were placed at the bottom of the hill they would know that it was done by a student run organization named Central Spirit. When people hear the name Central Spirit they think of just what we do for football, which is balloon launches and running the flags across the field.
However, we do much more than just football related activities. We host the First Friday Parade, which occurs the Friday before the first home game. It is a parade that consists of the Tiger Band, Cheerleaders, Sorority built floats, etc. We also sponsor the Homecoming Build that happens the entire Homecoming week on Bowman Field. For the first time, Central Spirit participated in the Homecoming Build by building a non-judged float that helped welcomed visitors to the Homecoming Build site.
Probably viewed as the most important objective within Central Spirit is to support all of Clemson athletics including: Men and Women Soccer, Volleyball, Swimming and Diving, etc. We try to get our members to come to every home sporting event to show support to Clemson University and to the student athletes. Besides just simply showing up to the games, we stand up and cheer the entire time and even body paint for these events.
If you would like to know even more about Central Spirit, you can visit our website www.centralspirit.net. Also, we have recently started a youtube channel to help show other events we do as a group in Central Spirit. You can follow this link to see our videos:
